I have seen many cats around here that have lost whole litters to bad weather and predators. When I know a female is pregnant I try to tame them enough to get them to come inside to give birth but the wilder ones just won't come in. I have been spaying and neutering the population around here for several years now but it seems there is no end. It is much better now though. We did not have a litter of kittens first time in quite a while last year. The local private animal shelter has been giving me a good discount when I take the cats there for their surgeries. They do a really good job there, too.
Those babies are going to be so much fun in a few weeks!
I would really love to make some kind of pen outside for them, I really think they'd like ti. I know I get sick and tired of being in the house through the winter, so I can just imagine how the cats might feel being cooped up in the house all the time. I talked to my vet already about Annie, it's only $90 to have her spayed, (if there's no complications and she isn't pregnant again, and I know she won't be cause I'm not letting her outside, so....) The only time she'll be outside is if I build an outdoor run for her and Justice. There are so many cats out here where I live it isn't funny! There was a cat that had kittens out here last summer, it was the lady who lived across the street from us, and she moved back to the road back behind us by down by the woods. She KNEW her cat was pregnant and didn't take it in the house. When she moved, she left it there, didn't try coming back after it or anything. The new people moved in and put some food and water out for Momma cause they felt so bad for her. And then one morning I went outside to find Momma and all her kittens under our truck. I coaxed them out with food so my hubby could leave, and for three days they stayed here, till I finally got fed up with the old neighbor being so none caring and pushing her responsibility onto others. So, I went out and bought a big bag of kitten food, scooped up the babies and Momma followed me. I went to the ladies wrap around porch, opened he bag of food and dumped it there, knocked on her door, no one answered, so I left. But as I was out in the road and walking off, I heard something, I turned around and there the lady was, at the opened door giving me a crappy look. Oh well.... The new neighbor had went to her and told her that her Momma cat had kittens and was at their house, she wouldn't go get them, she didn't care, so, I took them to her house for her. Then there's some older couple that lives back on her same road that has cats EVERYWHERE!! On the porch, in the garage, on their cars, in the yard, in the trees. They put food out for all of them, but I half want to go knock on the door and ask if they are spayed and neutered. I live on the outskirts of town, country like, and you wouldn't believe the cats out here. I can't afford to spay and neuter every cat out here, I wished I could, but I just can't, we've got 4 dogs, now 2 adult cats and 3 kittens and 3 turtles that we provide for and love. I wish people would get responsible and do the right thing out here....
