I just pitch them into the wash. The first stuffed squeaky toy I washed I didn't know I
had washed until it fell out of the dryer. lol I have a front loader, which uses minimal water, but I don't know that it matters. The toy was new and clean when it got accidentally mixed into bedding somehow and plunked into the washer. It came out perfect, tho. Don't know if that helps.
