Very very basic. If she starts whelping and she begins delivery, if no next pup after one hour; (that is very conservative time estimate) but better to err on side of caution; she needs to be seen by the vet immediately. If she is in hard labour and no pup begins to present head after 30 minutes - again trip to the vet.

Do not let her chew/cut the cord. Do it yourself. Many new and very young mom's will do damage to the pup.

Please note: I am only saying these things right now because I believe the birth can be imminent and that is based on your posts.

Let me be very blunt. It is very easy to lose a young female in her first whelp. She is only 4lbs so she should never have been bred, and at ONE year old... shameful.

You can talk to your girlfriends parents' even show them these posts. But the bottom line is they are responsible for the care of this female of theirs.

I truly hope from the bottom of my heart this young Yorkie makes it through her whelp and the nursing of the puppies.
