Some conditions say you don't have to rinse them out thoroughly, however others need to be rinsed thoroughly. Especially those that have a waxy type of base, they build up over time. I used to use one with a balsam type of base and it coated the hair shaft and left the hair very nice in the beginning, but over time, the hair became sticky, and then I needed a clarifying shampoo to remove the wax. Of course, a clarifying shampoo is actually a really strong shampoo, which in turn strips the hair of everything including natural oils. Not familiar with your product, and I’m not saying it’s doing this, but I do know that some conditioners can do this.

Your food sounds like it's not causing any problems, so I think I would try looking at the grooming products, it may take a couple of months to see how a product works in time.
