Talk about food and bones to chew on....... I feed Maggie Royal Canin Yorkie formula (dry). She ends up eating about 3/8 cup of it/day and she gets boiled chicken breast mixed in, about 1/8 cup or less, just enough to entice her to eat....It's a bad habit, but it works... Recently I thought to try a different brand of food hoping she would love it and I could wean her off the chicker...nope..I tried the Blue Buffalo small dog formula, it's like a pink/purple bag, so now I just use 1/4 of Royal Canin and 1/8 B buf and the chicken. She eats the best if we just feed her once day and hasn't had any treats. She is almost 10 pounds.
When she was at the vet last fall, about 1 3/4 yrs old I asked about her teeth and the vet said they looked really clean and white. So maybe the dry food is helping keep them nice. Every now and then I attempt a tooth brushing, but she squirms and I'm afraid i will squish her so she gets away. Then I put the toothpaste on a toy or chew thing and hope she gets some on her teeth. I read it's the enzymes and not the brushing action that do the work.
She loves to chew bully sticks and her tennis balls and toys. She has some rawhide stuff she chews from time to time. Her favorite treat is homemade chicken jerky with or w/ sweet potato.
What kind of bones are best? I see people mention raw bones, but that grosses me out. Do I want raw bone stuff on my carpets? Can't raw bones make them sick? Where do I get raw bones? |
