I have a double sink in the kitchen, the main side is bigger and deeper. I stick maggie in there and she tolerates it. She will not stand on all 4's or lie in it. She puts her front paws up on the top where the divider is. It's just the right height and it helps me rinse her since the water flows downward from her head. I usually get sprayed by one or two round of shaking, but I keep a towel nearby to hold up when I feel it coming on.
She has gotten better as she has learned that it won't kill her. I also noticed that she likes it better when the water is warmer. Since they have a higher body temp than us it makes sense they would prefer a warmer bath to a cooler one, so I make it warmer than my skin temp (testing on wrist like baby bottle). The sink sprayer helps a lot too.
If you have a double kitchen sink you might want to give it a try. At first it grossed me out before I had a dog, but since she is bathed every week and doesn't shed (and leave hair in the sink) I decided it is not gross. Nothing a little anti-bac soap can't handle.
I just tried pethead's blueberry muffin variety, Petsmart exclusive they claim. Smelled nice and I think she scratched less than she did with the other stuff (petsmart brand) that I used before. She is usually in a puppy cut that only gets a little long between groomings, so her hair shine/dry whatever is not an issue like it might be for those who want long silky hair. |
