I take it off because I don't want it matting her hair and I think she is more comfy without it, thought she doesn't really seem bothered by it. This one is truly "step-in" I lay it down and she puts one foot on each side of the center strap, then the buckles/latch come up and connect on her back. There are similar styles that go over the head and buckle. It really is quick and easy, and she has learned to pick up each foot and put it in the hole...very cute!
