Yeah, I had to work up to it little by little with Tibbe but still let him know it had to be done. I mean I can't run him to the vet or groomer every time his nails grow so we have to get it done at home. He has no choice in the matter so little by little and with many treats, very, very calmly and slowly and with much praise after a calm session, I eased him into it. If he resists, I keep on going but keep that nail session short and then repeat it later in the day to get the rest of what needed to be done that day. I find a small towel over his face seems to quieten him and sort of lessens my stress if he resists. But since he knows we are going to get it done and he knows it won't hurt as I can see when I'm getting near the cuticle and don't, he doesn't ever put up much resistance. And I tell him "Remember, this is for your good!" and it helps me mentally, sort of, so I can go onto the next toe when he is trying to pull his foot away. He doesn't love it but we have worked out a routine that works for us and it keeps his nails nice and short and healthy.
