When we go into the vet for a new born and momma check, we keep everyone in the car until they signal us to come inside...we put shoe covers over our shoes.....we go straight to a room, and I spray the exam table with Vircon, and I cover the table with a sheet I have brought from home. I put a face towel on the scale so no baby touches the scales. I supply my own thermometer. I have all my own exam equipment for the vet's use (being a nurse that was the easy part). When we are finished examining the momma and the babies, everyone goes straight back to the car with my son, the sheet and towel are bagged for immediate wash when we get home, and shoe covers are removed at the car and bagged for disposal. I take ABSOLUTELY NO chances....and yes, I give all my own shots, except rabies. My meds do not come from the feed store, and they are kept refridgerated at the correct temp. Sick dogs and their owners all all in the waiting area, and they all LOVE puppies...they all want to pet and look and see and .....NO!!!!! I have discovered it much easier for me, to go straight from the car to an exam room, then straight back out to the car.
