This doctor also suggested extra shots in the near future and said he should get neutered in 2 weeks and he will only be 5 months old. I thought he should be 6 months old as he is only 4-1/2 pounds.

Good Morning!
We got a new puppy the week before Christmas...Bentley, too, was 5 months old when we got him...but only 2.6 lbs. I brought him to the vet 2 days after we got him and brought in a stool sample...just because, (the breeder had wormed him a few times before we got him) My vet said he has giardia too...said it was a false positive but, treated him just the same...He had no symptoms at all...but, I still treated him. My vet said where Bentley was only 2.6 lbs to wait until he was 7 months old to have him neutered. I have heard of puppies at this weight getting spayed/neutered...I feel better waiting until he is bigger...My Lillie was 3 yrs old and 4 1/2 lbs when I had her spayed...I don't think thats too small to have him neutered but, if you don't feel comfortable I would wait. As far as shot go...I am on the fence about all the vaccination they give animals...IMO...I don't feel it's necessary..I had titers done on the girls (before we got Bentley) and Sadies came back with her distemper very high...she didn't need another vaccine for 3 yrs!!! I spoke with my vet and told her I only want them vaccinated every 5 yrs...I don't feel it's necessary to be vaccinated every year...MO...I feel it's a money making thing for some of these vets...MO again...I wish they didn't need rabies every 3 yrs either,,,don't feel that's necessary either...I would have told them I wasn't paying for that test....especially where you already had one done....why did they take another stool? and if it were a re-check they shouldn't have charged you at all....And they wonder why people don't bring their animals to the vets....Ridiculous prices..
