weaning problems Ok so this isnt about yorkies. its about my mother-in-laws poodles but i have a yorkie and i love this site so i wanted to ask here as i always get good answers.
So here it is
Poodle mom had 4 puppies 4 weeks ago today. Over the past few days she has decided she does not want to nurse them anymore at all. We started giving them Royal Canin babydog food mixed with warm water and they were lapping it up like crazy but not so much anymore. I'm a little worried because they dont seem as energetic as i thought they would be at this age. They wont walk to the food on their own so we have been going in there to give it to them but they dont seem to be eating it as much as they were. I tried putting it into a blender to make it mushy and also make it very watery. Neither worked. a few of them ate a tiny bit then they were done.
so my questions are
1. how often should we be feeding it to them? 2 times a day 3 just leave it out?
2. How do we teach them to go to it?
3. should we leave mom with them and hope she nurses a little or does that hinder the weaning process and should we take her away completely?
Any suggestions or advice would be wonderful! thank you!!
