When it comes to teacup yorkies, this will be a constant battle. My dogs have always been on average about 5-6 lbs. EVERYTIME I would be out with one of them, people would come over to talk to us, they would either share stories of their dog or someone they knew. Almost everyone would ask; "is that a teacup". And I would say no it is not it is just a yorkie, there is only one type of yorkies, teacups and toys are not a type like toy poodles. They would tell me, "well my mom, friend, whatever has a teacup", and act like I did not know what I was talking about. Then these same people later will see web site after web site advertising AKC registered tea cup yorkies. On top of it all there is a demand for the little ones, at this point I would say the majority of people buying a yorkie wants one 4 lbs or less. For so many pet yorkie owners low weight seems to be a sense of pride. The proff in that is that almost the first thing you get asked when someone finds out you have a yorkie is what does it weigh. People seem to gloat if there dog is smaller than yours, well mine is 4lbs, or mine is only 3 lbs, it's like a badge of honor. I also think this is the same with maltese and chici. I have a lot of friends that have small yorkies, while I don't encourage it, I also don't argue with them about it since it their choice and their dogs are healthy and well taken care of. |
