It appears to me that a great many of the people on YT have purchased dogs from pet stores or back yard breeders. They come here because they get into trouble and need info and some stay and learn. I see aspiring byb people stopping by to ask questions from time to time. You have to remember they are ignorant. For the most part they just don't have the information that is available here and at other sources. YT is a bubble of information in a world of ignorance. The people here have the opportunity to inform people.
Some may have come here with problems with their dogs but I think the issue here is with people who want information about breeding their dogs. People seem to be more sympathetic toward people with a pet problem than people who want to breed. Some people want to shame people for wanting to breed and some people want to try to communicate with them. I think if you kindly offer people the sort of information they need some may learn from it, but then of course some won't and in that case then you have to be more blunt. It seems you have to take the opportunity to at least try to be helpful and communicate on the new person's level to start out with. |
When I came on YT back in 2005 I was open and honest with the members. I told them I bought Baby on a whim. I went into a pet store. I knew nothing about Yorkies (or dogs for that matter) nor puppymills. They said they didn't get them from mills. Okay! WTF did I know? I knew that was stupid after doing some post searching and I wanted to "make up for it" by doing the right thing and finding out tons, something I should have done first. The responses I received were overwhelming nice and they were there to help. As I stated in a previous post, if I got bashed I would not have come back. Yes, some people do come back and learn by intimidation. I do not. I fight back tooth and nail until I get the last word and cut you down like a knife. I will admit when I'm wrong and fight when I'm not. In this case, people don't read the original question and seek out the drama word or sentence and harp on that. It's a shame seeing we are all here for the same reason. This is getting so redundant.
