Just brought home a new Yorkie... We just brought home a baby Yorkie. She is currently 8.5 weeks old and we've had her about a week. So far, she's done really well. I'm new to the board and wanted to ask a couple of quick questions.
She had her first trip to the vet this past weekend. She weighed in at 2 lbs 3oz. Our breeder said she would likely not get over 5lbs. I've seen a few weight charts that suggest she may get bigger than this. Our vet did not have an opinion yet. What are your thoughts on her current size and potential size, etc.?
At what age will her ears begin to stand up? At what age should I begin to "motivate" them to stand up (if they're still floppy)?
I was planning on taking her to the groomer once she has all of her shots. Is this typical?
We are currently using a Potty Training Puppy Apartment for house training. Anyone used one of these? So far, it's worked well. She has not had an accident in her bed. She's using the potty pads when contained to the puppy apartment. She is 50/50 when outside of the apartment. I know she's still quite young and this will be an ongoing process. My goal is to eventually move her from the potty pads to outside once she gets older and the weather gets warmer. I know that some have conflicting thoughts on this transition, but we're going to give it a shot.
Thanks for your help and I look forward to your comments. |
