Md. Man Charged With Throwing Yorkie From Balcony - Baltimore News Story - WBAL Baltimore

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Police said a Baltimore County man is facing animal cruelty charges after he tossed a Yorkshire terrier from a balcony, and animal control officials said the dog is doing remarkably well.
County police said officers were called to Mill Centre Drive on Sunday evening after a woman saw a man walk out on a townhouse balcony and throw something. She investigated and discovered an injured Yorkshire terrier.
Police spokeswoman Cathy Batton said a woman came out of the townhouse and collected the dog, which was taken to Falls Road Animal Hospital.

Batton said the dog, named Louie, had serious, life-threatening head and spinal injuries after being thrown about 50 feet from the 23-foot-high balcony.
On Wednesday, 11 News was told that Louie has since been released and is in the care of the Baltimore County Animal Control.
"It's pretty amazing how quickly animals recover and heal, even given the extent of the pain and injuries he's in. They're pretty tough," said Baltimore County Animal Control Assistant Chief Tom Scollins.
According to Batton, 43-year-old Gary Wallace, Jr., who lives at the home, is charged with animal mutilation and felony animal cruelty. He's being held on $250,000 bond.
Neighbor Evelyn Centeno adores her two dogs and said she's horrified that someone could hurt a pet like Louie.
"I have a Yorkie, and I'm an animal lover. It's just a horrible thing. I don't know why anyone would buy a dog in the first place and then not know how to take care of it. It's just terrible," she said.
Louie is still being treated for head trauma, but he's walking straighter now and is expected to be OK, animal control officials said.
There's no word when or if he'll be up for adoption, but officials said he's alive thanks to the quick thinking of someone who did the right thing.
"They called the police, which was the correct thing to do," Scollins said.
