I have never heard of this syndrome, but I do know plenty of Yorkies have survived the awkward growing out stage. We used a tiny dab of Vaseline to smooth the mustache hair down and a little PetSilk or All Systems topknot gel to keep the bangs up. Just be careful that none of it goes in the eye. You don't want to put it right in the corner of the eyes.
Both of my boys had a little unicorn topknots for awhile. It doesn't last long. Frequent combing trains the hair, and maybe stimulates growth.
