The only water additive, I believe, that has been tested and approved by the VOHC is HealthyMouth. But it's a bit pricey. But they did some good trials, etc.
Lots have good results with Petzlife Gel/Spray. I use the gel on occasion when I don't brush. I try to brush every night with the CET toothpaste. It does contain some alcohol which makes some nervous. But I don't find it a big enough risk for my 16lb dog so I continue to use it.
Oh and I do sprinkle some PlaqueOff on his food like 4 or 5 days a week. Don't know how much it makes a difference but I think it works. |
Buster has been on HealthyMouth since he was about six months old and I also brush with the CET toothpaste if I can get any past Buster's tongue lol. He had a checkup last year with his dentist and she was very impressed with the lack of plaque. He will have his 2 year check up again in May. She is the one who recommended the HeathyMouth. Here is the website and I just noticed they now have a gel.
