this site has some helpful info on placing the bands. You really cannot hold the fur without the bands. You can place your clip or bow after the bands are in place and they will stay. You may have to do it a bit unconventionally at first until your little one grows her hair to the length you need and want to have. I place the bands closer to the front until we got more length to work with.
