I haven't used it four over 4 years now. We just used it the first year, and before I found it, I used distilled water that says it is safe for drinking. I then found the Gerber product at Walmart and I think it's says something good for babies formula? At the time, they had both no minerals and minerals added, since I believed it was the minerals causing the tearing, I chose the one without the minerals. Since then, I noticed my regular supermarket has various choices of distilled water, and purified water.
There are so many theories on causes of tearing; it's really hard to find a one treatment for all dogs. After the teething period, Joey was tear free for a couple of years, until I did a food switch and then at the time it was a much more serious case of tearing, with brown gunk in his eyes and a beard that was wet all day. In that case, I just switched back to my regular food and it cleared up.
By the way, for those interested, this site has more information on some of the causes of tearing.
