Any breeding using a dog you own makes you a breeder and therefore responsible. the much bigger question is how does he meet the breed standard? Has he been shown to championship? Has be been evaluated by a knowledgable show breeder for his good points and faults? What about any health issues in any of his parents/grandparents and back into the pedigree? Any genetic ones?
AKC does not accept Continental Kennel Club registry or records as bona fide. Both your pups parents must be AKC registered and not under limited registration if you want to use him at stud.
