I have to disagree with you on this. AKC is not more expensive; in fact, in many cases it's less expensive. The truth is most dogs can’t be registered because they have no proof they are purebreds. The AKC demands proof the dog is purebred and just as important that the breeder has breeding rights. The CKC does not demand anything other than the breeders "word" for that the dog is a purebred, and it doesn't care if the breeder had no breeding rights. Also, because many states are creating laws with more humane kennel conditions, the AKC can follow each individual state’s laws and remove any breeders who aren't following their state laws. The AKC does routine unannounced kennel inspections. This is the reason many large commercial breeders are leaving the AKC. There are several paper registries besides the CKC, and there is a reputable registry with the same initials. The Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) is the AKC equivalent. The Continental Kennel Club also CKC, is an American organization, and probably choose the name to mislead unsuspecting buyers into thinking their dogs were registered by a legitimate company. I also think it matters, even if you just want a pet, what type of breeder you are supporting. In my opinion, you should only support breeders who are truly breeding purebred dogs and actually have breeding rights to those dogs. Otherwise, it’s like buying stolen property. I also recommend pet owner register their eligible dogs with the AKC to show support for what they are doing.
