I used it for Joey when he was a puppy and it totally worked for him too. One day I noticed his eyes were tearing and I asked my husband if he had given Joey regular filter water, and he admitted he had. I'm so glad he told me the truth or I would have probably thought the distilled water wasn't doing the trick. Within a day of using only Gerber's purified water with no minerals, his eyes weren't tearing. I would experiment once a month and give him regular filtered water and around 11 months he could drink the regular filtered water with no tearing. So this isn't something they will need for the rest of their lives and I do think it has something to do with teething, but the minerals in regular water made Joey's eyes tear.
