I have boarded mine three times with excellent results.

I chose a place that is heavily into dog training -- agility, conformation, obedience, etc. I took Jezebel there for her puppy classes, which got her acquainted with the place in a positive experience. Then, I purposely did not go on vacation for over a year, I just did not want to board her while she was still a puppy. When she was a year old, we got another that was the same age that needed a new home.

When it was time to board them for the first time (about 10 days before) I brought them in and left them for a half day, just to get them used to the place. They were also temperament tested by a professional, so that they could be approved for participation in doggie day care. Then maybe four days before boarding, I brought them in for a half day of doggie day care. So by the time they actually had to board for the first time, they knew the facility, the people (very professional people who know and train dogs), and it was all positive experiences.

All three times I have boarded them, they get excited when we pull into their parking lot. They pull on their leashes and can't get inside fast enough. They get all wiggly and excited greeting the people at the front desk. They get excited when someone comes from the back to take them back to their kennel. They eagerly go with the worker, and they never look back at me. (That makes me feel good and bad at the same time, LOL).

I know they are in great hands, they are with people that really know dogs and how to relate to them. I get them an indoor/outdoor run, so they aren't cooped up in a cage, and I know they are together so they are not lonely. I pay extra for them to have a half day of daycare, and I know that other dogs are not allowed around them unless they have also been temperament tested and passed the test. I know all that play wears them out, which is good. The staff also puts their pictures on facebook, so I can see first-hand what a great time they are having.

My two are just CRAZY about the place! No distress at all when I leave them.
