| Need to find a place to board Chloe :( My father in law is sending our family all expenses paid to a resort in the Dominican (yes I know boo hoo LOL). The problem is that I cant bring Chloe with me. There are 26 of us going and my family already thinks that I am obssessed with my little furbaby so trying to find a way to take her isnt an option and as we certainly couldnt afford to pay for her to go. I am left needing to find somewhere to send her for 8 days and 7 nights. I have asked a dear friend to stay at my house for the week but she hasnt gotten back to me yet and I have to find other options. I went to PetSmart to inquire about their boarding but they have a max capacity of 160 dogs and only 3 staff at night and 6 during the day. They told me that Chloe would be out of her "suite" for a total of 7 hours a day plus pee breaks but that would leave her confined for 17 hours a day! Thats with me paying for the deluxe package. A friend of ours left their dog with their vet while on vacation and when they came back his foot was badly damaged. So I am very concerned about leaving her. Also she is very well loved (spoiled) and gets a great deal of attention and playtime. She sleeps with us at night, has her teeth brushed every night, etc etc... I know that I cant expect someone else to treat her as well as I do but I want to make sure that she is taken care of while I am away. Has anyone had to leave a little one behind while on vacation and if so what was your experience? I am willing to travel up to 3 hours for a good place and I live in Binbrook just outside of Hamilton. I have a budget of 350 dollars for her stay. If anyone can suggest a really safe place for her where they really love dogs would you please let me know. I am leaving on Feb 17th so I have a bit of time to find a place if my friend cant help. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer. Tina |

| I usually leave mine at a veterinary clinic, but i work there so i trust them thankfully. But i know alot of vet clinics have people that work for them that do house sitting, or know of good reliable people who house sit. Maybe an option to ask you vet clinic for some suggestions. If your friends cant do it, cause it would obviously be ideal if someone who knows her can take care of her. |

| I have boarded mine three times with excellent results. I chose a place that is heavily into dog training -- agility, conformation, obedience, etc. I took Jezebel there for her puppy classes, which got her acquainted with the place in a positive experience. Then, I purposely did not go on vacation for over a year, I just did not want to board her while she was still a puppy. When she was a year old, we got another that was the same age that needed a new home. When it was time to board them for the first time (about 10 days before) I brought them in and left them for a half day, just to get them used to the place. They were also temperament tested by a professional, so that they could be approved for participation in doggie day care. Then maybe four days before boarding, I brought them in for a half day of doggie day care. So by the time they actually had to board for the first time, they knew the facility, the people (very professional people who know and train dogs), and it was all positive experiences. All three times I have boarded them, they get excited when we pull into their parking lot. They pull on their leashes and can't get inside fast enough. They get all wiggly and excited greeting the people at the front desk. They get excited when someone comes from the back to take them back to their kennel. They eagerly go with the worker, and they never look back at me. (That makes me feel good and bad at the same time, LOL). I know they are in great hands, they are with people that really know dogs and how to relate to them. I get them an indoor/outdoor run, so they aren't cooped up in a cage, and I know they are together so they are not lonely. I pay extra for them to have a half day of daycare, and I know that other dogs are not allowed around them unless they have also been temperament tested and passed the test. I know all that play wears them out, which is good. The staff also puts their pictures on facebook, so I can see first-hand what a great time they are having. My two are just CRAZY about the place! No distress at all when I leave them.

| I havent considered Kijiji and honestly that would make me a bit leary. I am leaving on Feb 17th. If I were the person responsible for booking the trip I would have picked a location that was dog friendly, as it is I am stuck needing a place for her. If I cant find a really good place I am not sure what I will do. I dont think that my DH would understand my staying at home because of Chloe LOL. |

| Thankfully it looks like my girlfriend will be staying at my home while I am away Yippee!!! I am SO relieved! I will admit it that I have spoiled Chloe, she is a very very well behaved dog with zero puppy surprise packages lol and she is very gentle but very pampered I am so grateful that I will be able to leave her and her big sister here in their home with a kind and sweet woman who adores my dogs. I wanted to say how wonderful the folks here at YT are as I received a few PM's with offers to watch Chloe if my friend was not able to help. |

I have techs from my vet do house calls while I am away....of course, they do not get everything I do for them, but they are exercised, fed and watered, and they are safe and treated kindly....even with people I can trust, I worry so much whenever I USED to leave, I did not enjoy myself at all....so I just dont go anymore, if I cant take my dogs. (Just noted, this is an old post!!!!!!!!!!) Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 08-17-2012 at 09:04 PM. | |
