Bella (completely accidentally, she's not a vicious puppy), tore my lip open with her claws this morning. She was at the vet's about a week ago and we have them clip their claws since I'm too chicken to do it. I could have them filed too but I didn't think it necessary.

Well, I'll get them filed as well from now on, but in any case, I picked Bella up from her playpen this morning and she freaked out like she always does (so cute), started licking my cheek (she knows the mouth is a no no). Well, she reached up to pat my chin and accidentally ripped my lip open. There's now a large bump there, and I'm wondering if I should call my 'people doctor' for some antibiotics or if I can just put a little neosporin on it throughout the day until it heals or...?

This hasn't happened before so I'm just wondering who has ideas to help heal it and if I should be on antibiotics?

Once again, she didn't mean to, it wasn't on purpose. I only let her lick my cheeks in the morning because she's super excited to see her person when she wakes up. Most of you have owned a small puppy; they aren't violent creatures. Her paws wiggle around all over the place when she's excited like that. I feel VERY BAD for her!! I said omg ouch when she did it and you could just see the look on her face. She knew she hurt her person and she felt so bad.

I did get the bleeding stopped very quickly, and washed it with hot soap and water (ouch). I then rinsed with Listerine and already put a dab of Neosporin on it.

Aww.. I know she didn't do it on purpose, but working in the medical field you should monitor it.. for dog bites I know we give Tetanus shots just in case..and depending on how bad maybe anabiotic. if it were me and it did bleed I would call my doctor just in case for piece of mind.. if not if it feels feverish and hurts bad.. don't wait to go in.. I wish I could see it to let you know better.. good luck.. next time ask the person who is clipping Bella's nail to file them for you.. Bella baby we still love you...big hugs..
