Skingstone ---I'll bet my dog is worse than yours. From the get-go, he wiggled, squirmed, whinned, and kept turning around trying to bite me whenever I tried to brush or comb him.
If I turn the comb upside down- and just glide it over him (you know he's not even being combed) - he will carry on like I'm trying to kill him.
There are a couple things I do.
The best thing I read here on YT was someone who put some cheese on a saucer and put it in the microwave. She heated it just long enough that it melted and when it cooled off - it was was almost "hard" on the dish. This really kept my puppy licking for almost ten minutes and I was able to get a lot done....for the first time.
Second - I have a comb on the sofa, and I comb a little area whenever he gets near me. I do this while he's running around and playing. I think he's learning that a comb or brush isn't going to kill him.
Whatever - he is really terrible. I am so thankful that he doesn't matt...and for now - I'm keeping him short.
I do know, however, that these little guys do need to learn to stand still and be groomed. It's just part of training and growing up.
If I had someone here with me, I'd just have them hold his head (against his will - of course) and comb or brush him out gently and carefully - and then give him a treat and let him go -- done deal! I know I'm not hurting him.
