Once again, do not yell at the dog while she is peeing. You simply pick her up, calmly, take her outside, and say "Potty" when after a few minutes if she walks around outside, bring her back in, and then clean up the mess without yelling, cursing, whatever.
This whole "alpha" dog doesn't work with Terriers. They use complately different training techniques, and many times people don't want to listen and the dog ends up in a shelter. Hence the reason Yorkies are found so many times in rescues.
This dog associates you with everything being negative. You're her owner, you're her caretaker, and you need to be the one that has to change. That means never, EVER putting her in the crate for "punishiment". The crate is a safe haven for dogs. Not a "room" punishment that you do with children.
When you take her outside to potty, if she potties, you make a big deal like no tomorrow and regard her with praise and treats. You play with her, take her for walks, teach her tricks.
It's when you start associating yourself with doing fun and learning activities that you become this so called "alpha male" not by yelling and scolding the dog... |
