Since he has to be alone all day you may want to get him a friend
Good luck with the potty training. Mine is a little over 5 months and I'm still trying to get him to go outside consistently but he still likes to go inside every now and then.
Sooner or later they all learn...well, most of them
Oh and mine sleeps in the bed every night now. I used to crate him at night but now he sleeps all night in bed.
