You are so right...if you do not ask ,how can you learn?
The first step is to determine if your male is breed quality..not just his conformation, but pedigree-wise.
Second step is a vet check for genetic problems. If he checks out to be fine, then you want to contact his breeder and determine the genetic health of his line.
After you have done this, I would be more then happy to answer any questions I can.
