I've had many freak accidents...many of them including stairs. But, here's just a few of my more memorable ones:
* When I was in my late teens, I was hanging out with some new and strange friends out on Long Island. One of these couples was infamous for their Fourth of July and Halloween parties (they were always epic!). One 4th of July they decided to have a jell-o wrestling pit in the yard. Yes, they filled a kiddie pool with jell-o and man was it a sloppy mess. I didn't wrestle, but there was jell-o all over the yard. I slipped in the jell-o and went down hard...on a huge rock. I wound up in the ER at Stonybrook with a broken wrist and a dislocated kneecap. It sure was interesting going in there without shoes and covered in jell-o. Months of PT on my knee followed.
* The second story is one that my father still uses to this day as an example with the grandchildren. When I was 5 my brother had gone on a school field trip to a local site that was important during the American Revolution. As a souvenir he brought me back a replica fife (flute). Well, I was merrily walking around the house playing my flute, when I decided to go outside. I thought the side garage door was open...it wasn't. I walked right into the closed door and wound up with a flute lodged down my throat. Lots of blood and drama followed. My dad (who was a police patrolman at the time) was just leaving for work in the patrol car. He raced me to the hospital with lights and siren going. It was an extremely scary experience. However, I did get quite a lot of ice cream out of it!
* And, to finish up, a story involving the dog. During the summer, DF was out walking Roxie. I went out to look for him, and saw he was on his way back down the street. Roxie saw me from a distance and took off like a shot toward me. DF actually came out of his shoes, let go of the leash, and went down like a ton of bricks. He ended up with a really bad mess on his knee, and a HUGE gash out of his wrist. His wrist has just recently healed, but he has a very obvious and large scar.
I could go on for days here...LOL!
