I have a friend that has chihuahuas and she uses a really large crate (like great dane size...) that has room for a bed, potty pads, food and water. She's basically using it as she would an x-pen, but doesn't have the worry of them escaping it. It works great for her as she has a room it always stays in...it would be difficult if you intended to move it around the house.
