I don't think I'd ever do it, but I don't see a problem if it doesn't hurt the animal & is very safe for their skin. Nothing like human dye. My mom used to have dalmations & around easter would dot them with food coloring. Though I thought it was kinda dumb it didn't seem to hurt the dogs in the least.
I did just see a slide show or something the other day, maybe on Youtube, about dogs (like chows, etc) being 'painted' as animals & put on display in a zoo. I thought that was horrible, imo, as they were completely being objectified.
