My girl will work away at her Kong for an hour sometimes trying to lick all the smooshed up cheese out of the hole! I usually smoosh in 1/3 of a slice, and she is good to go!
Today I had no slices, so I used shredded, but smooshed it so it held together in there. It worked the same.
