Dogs and Old people are 'my thing'.
You sound just like me,lol! From the time I could walk, I would walk around our neighborhood and look for dogs and older people, hehe. I met so many wonderful people and fur friends like that! I was adopted as an honorary grand daughter to many an elderly couple. I just always found more in common with dogs and older people. I love to hear their stories and I would take the dogs back to their homes if I could find them. LOL.
TO OP:
As far as adopting the little furbutt, I see no reason why you couldn't, because they most likely wouldn't even know the baby by the time it gained some weight and he was bathed and groomed. If it is taken away from them that is. I can tell you right now, that if you had went and asked they would have turned you down flat. You see, folks don't want something until they know someone else does!!! My yorkie Mojo was just such a case! Ive had him for a little over a month now, but have known about him for some time. I had went with a friend of mine to one of her family/friends homes to pick up something she needed one day, and saw him in their home. He fell in love with me, and I him. I could tell he needed help so a few days later I asked my friend to inquire if they might want to sell him or give him away because my mom who is terminally ill wanted a fur baby to love, and of course it was NO, I LOVE MY BABY, ETC,ETC,ETC!!! I tried to find a way to turn these people in about his condition, but there was no place in the area they lived. No animal control, no humane society, NOTHING! I was still looking into how to do it, but my friend told me she would get the dog for me as she is kin to them in some way, if she had to go in and take him. I told her not to do that or get herself in trouble. She told me she didn't know why the woman objected so much as she knew they didn't love him and was actually calling him all kinds of foul names, beating him, living crated almost 24/7 with his own feces and urine! They kept him in but never did anything for him as I myself saw feces in a corner of their dining area that day! He was also skin and bones!!! After me spending a couple of nights crying about him and worrying, I decided to go to my sherriff dept and find out what could be done. This was like 2-3 weeks later, but the very morning I was going in, my friend called and said COME OVER TO MY HOUSE AND WE R GOING TO GET THE DOG! The boyfriend said the woman had moved out and left the dog there for over 3 days by itself!!! He was gone that week because they were busting up and he was giving her time to get her stuff moved out so he didn't know the dog was alone, unfed, living in it's own feces!!! He gave me Mojo and his crate, but I had to clean the crate before I could put it in my friends car because it was full of poo that was ground in and all over the food dishes! The sheet she had for him to sleep on was soaked with urine and the smell was horrible!!! I threw the dishes away, but had to keep the crate. If someone thinks you want something they have, they never want to let you have it! So stupid! I would keep my eyes open and if I knew it was taken, I would adopt it, keep it on the down low for a couple weeks until it got fixed, vet checked and shots, etc. and had a good grooming and bathe. Chances are they will never know it was even their dog to start with! Good luck and keep us updated. Oh, and this woman knows me on FB and in life. If she sees I have the dog, so be it! He looks so different now though I don't think she would even have a clue! LOL
