Growing up we had the colored lights. The ones in the huge bulbs and non LED. Then when we got our own house, we got a prelit tree, so obviously those have white (well when we bought it, there was only white). Someone in the neighborhood put up the old school colored lights on the outside, and now I am liking how that looks again. It makes the house look like a gingerbread house. Very cute.

I agree colored lights are more kitchy (sp?) and vintage (as long as they are not colored LEDs) and white is more classy.
