Default Bells on Collars

I have always had a bell on Taycie's collar. I like knowing where she is and it does help when she is standing by my feet so I don't trip on her. Because she is so little I have taken to buying a few cat collars as well. They are inexpensive and super cute and they come with a bell.

As for some of the dog collars they don't have a bell so I buy bells at the kitty section at petsmart.

My question is... the bell's outer layer rubs off quickly and ends up looking rather dull. Any ideas on how to prevent that from happening?? I was thinking of painting it with Clear fingernail polish.. but that will only last so long as well.

I know.. strange question... just thought I would ask.
