Just tonight, within the past three-four hours, Jackson's kind of been licking at his butt.

It doesn't look red or irritated at all. He got groomed about a week ago so I don't think it'd be irritation from the buzzer or anything. I don't think this groomer automatically does anal glands, it's extra $$, so I am just wondering if maybe he needs them expressed. His stools have been firm. He hasn't taken any pain meds or antibiotics for a week. We did go to the dog park today and on a few walks, could it be possible that something just irritated him?

I felt down there (gross, I know!) but I wouldn't even know what anal glands feel like. I do feel two sac-like things, but not sure if that's normal, or if that's the glands? Anyone know? Should I attempt to empty them myself at home, or is that a no-no? I just watched a few videos lol. But don't really WANT to do it. I am not sure he's ever had his glands expressed before. He's expressed them naturally when he's gotten scared - when he stayed overnight at the hospital, his bum was terrible and smelly. And when they cut his nails, same thing. But other than that, none.

He is going to the veterinary dentist tomorrow for a free re-check of his teeth from his dental surgery two weeks ago. But they are a dentist specialist, so I'll feel like an idiot asking about his glands, I am not sure they mess with that kind of stuff or what the protocol is for that.

Oh, and it's not like constant licking. It's like about an hour ago, he hopped off the couch and licked his bum for probably five minutes in a row. Two hours before that, same thing, lasted about 3-5 minutes and then he goes back and lays down and acts comfortable.
