I would avise you to try to find out if they are licensed by the USDA. The USDA license is a livestock license(I have been told) and the dogs can be treated same as cows, pigs, goats and so on. IF you go to the place where the puppies are housed, that frequently is NOT the real breeding area/bldg. Also, some do not use machinery/phones and get someone else to do their dirty work for them..You drive down a country lane to a nice, clean white farm house. You get there and the seller is not the breeder and they might show you a dog that is supposed to be the parent(S) and often that dog has no relationship to the puppy! I saw a very sick little girl in my vet's office-the owners had bought 2 puppies from same person, living like I described above, the week of Christmas. It was New Years Day and the male had already died of heart failure and the little girl had, hydrocephaly, liver shunt, heart murmur and WAS COVERED FROM HER NECK DOWN WITH RINGWORM!! She died later that day. The owners told me where they got her and I said"I am sure you have already been told your puppy came from a mill!" They looked at each other and said how did she know? They had heard many different barking sounds, and smelled odors from back there.
One of the best known Yorkie breeders is in PA. The secy of YTCA lives in PA. Another show breeder lives in PA. Yes, there are reputable breeders up there, but they are a minority..
I will not even buy Amish cole slaw or potato salad at the grocery store even though I know they had nothing to do with the food. Just my way of protesting, I guess.
