I experienced this type of thing with a cat. Had a cat. Boyfriend came next. Boyfriend did not want cat. Boyfriend was mean to cat. Was safter for cat to have a new home, even though it broke my heart to let her go. Later, got rid of boyfriend, too, after realizing he was simply a d*ck. New boyfriend, new puppy. All good.
