i would never think of a dog as "just a dog, I have always treated my dogs as dogs and a member of my family. My chihuahua always slept on the bed with me cuddles real close, my german shepard always wanted to come into my room to sleep on the floor.treating the dogs like family is also why i am choosing physical punishment, because if i had kids i would spank them. dogs are as much family to me as my parents/brother. but when i say that i have always treated them also like dogs its because you dont treat them exactly like human beings. and also god forbid a situation ever arises where its between a human family member and my dog, (like say a fire) id be forced to choose my human family member.
the first german shepard i had unfortunatly got hit by a car, she was internally bleeding, i felt like we were so connected, and especially how she limped all the way upstairs to my room basically to die lying there with me til we brought her to the vet.
So basically i have always had a very close bond with my pets, so has my dad. maybe your way works too, thats not to say its better. in the real world of dogs in the wild theres always an alpha male, one that slaps around the others and leads the pack. im basically the alpha male providing discipline but with 110 percent loving 5 percent physical punishment.
