I don't know about using any special coating - I would be suspicious. My old cast iron is so old I don't even remember who made it but I bought it on my sister's recommendation as to brand, though she had had hers at that point for 12 years and it was a handmedown from our grandmother. Who knows how old that old relic of my sister's is now but it has sure made many a meal over the many years it has served and surely baked much cornbread also. I don't know that you can ever do better than the regular old cast iron that you season yourself using the old tried and true first-time methods and then with use after use after use. I will never replace it with something else.
