My vet assistant told me the story of her mother's yorkie. She disappeared from her yard. About a week later they were at PetSmart and SAW her dog. They asked the woman if she had recently found or acquired the dog. The woman told them she had had her for a long time. They followed her home and called animal control who scanned the dog and found it was theirs. She sold me, anyway.

Mine also wore their tags on cat collars when they were smaller and I was afraid of them being stepped on (they have a little bell, too). Now they wear harnesses to walk or go to the vet and no collars or harnesses at home. They never get out.

A collar and leash can hurt/crush their trachea - a common problem with yorkies.
