It may take me cutting his hair to get rid of the urine and feces that I just know soaked up into his coat!!! I was so heartbroken when I first saw him! I think I read somewhere here that a little coconut oil in his chow would help inside and out, so I'm going to try it and see. He seems to have the color and markings of YT and the hair on his head is silky and fine and is starting to turn a tan with some silver coming in. I parted the hair and it is tan down at the roots, but I know he is not AKC standard perfection,LOL. His body hair is thicker than the head and has a little wave to it, but I'm so confused about the different coat types. Wish I could find more pics on the net showing each so I would know which type he is. I will never be trying to show my little fur buddies, so I'm just fine with whatever color, coat, size he has. He's a sweetie and so smart! I potty trained him in a couple of days and now he even whines when he needs to go out. Not one accident in his crate which to me is amazing after having done it there for so long! Just goes to prove that given even the smallest attention and care, any dog can learn and be a wonderful family member! Thanks so much everyone, you are all so generous and kind! I knew this would be a good site with great people! Everytime I googled anything about yorkies, this site would pop up and I knew I had to join!
When you have some time you can check out our grooming forum; we have a lot of product "nuts", myself included that like to try out and experiment with different shampoos n conditioners.

Off the top of my head, if you go to Biogroom's website I believe they will ship out free samples of their products. Try to get them to include the Silk Conditioner I just adore that one. Velus also has a sampler pack, that will last you either 4-6 washing depending upon the dilution rate you choose.

While you didn't mention it and I don't know if you know how to do this, but often times a Yorkies anal glands will need to be expressed/emptied. Please ask your vet to show you how to do this.

As a new Yorkie owner if you goto the Health library you should update yourself on the recommended protocol for vaccinations of toy breeds.

Your boy looks adorable to me there is lots of Yorkie in him, with a hint of something else.

I would also suggest that if you don't have pet insurance, you investigate getting some in place for your pups. Yorkies and that includes mixes can have health problems of one nature or another, and it is best to try to have some protection either through the health insurance or put aside some money each month for future care. As well as our dogs age, health problems are more likely and you'll be happy you've prepared for them.
We like to buy Savings Bonds, just a small monthly amount every month and pretty soon you have a respectable amount set aside that earns interest year by year.

Welcome to the joys of being owned by a Yorkie
