I have used it on my Maltese for years. They do not damage the coat. The brushes come in large and small and have combs that match that are made of something really tough that holds up really well. The rattail combs are great when parting hair or poufing topknots.

I use mine after a topknot to loosen the hair to put the bow on. I've always used a clip bow with a band first and if I don't loosen it a little they look like ---->
