All of mine are chipped and they also have ID on their harness. I am covered both direction. The problem with just having your dog have an ID on is that if the dog is stolen there is no way for you to prove it if the person stealing your dog removes the ID. At least you have a little bit of a chance with the chip also in the dog. One other nasty thing is that if your dog got lost and picked up by animal control and sold to a research company (you don't want to know why) then if he has a chip they will not do research on the animal.
