One of the best parties I EVER threw was a wine tasting party. I bought about 8 bottles (different types and price points) and people brought bottles. We tried each one, rated it, and discussed them. I had cheese, bread, meat and fruit to accompany everything. This civilized agenda lasted about an hour and about 3 glasses and then....
We all got to try a lot of different wines and figure out what we liked.
