So when I got my first yorkie she was already potty trained so potty training is new to me. I wanted to get feedback.

I plan to put my puppy in a crate and in a giant play pen but I was wondering, should I also put a puppy pad in the corner of the play pen while I'm at work? And should I keep the crate door open so the puppy can roam around in the play pen or should I keep it closed? I want to train the puppy to go outside but I know for puppies its hard. Do you think training on pads AND taking the puppy outside will cause confusion? The goal is for them to know its not okay to pee inside, but I dont want the puppy pottying in its crate, thats why I've thought about maybe doing the pad too.

Btw, while I'm at work, I'm having someone come by during lunch to take the puppy out.
