He said that Yorkie breeders aren't the only people who do this. It is being done with a lot of other small breeds as well.
I would hope that your little gets up to at least 5 pounds. He has such a better chance for a long healthy life if he does. So please - don't want or hope for a very tiny little guy!

On another thread you said your vet implied it is criminal to even want a dog under 5lbs. I wonder if you might want to find a more experienced vet who understands Toy Breeds. The Yorkie Standard is under 7lbs. Your dog may be "normal" but he probably won't be within the standard. Many people own healthy 3-4lb Yorkies and a 4lb. dog is not unusual. (Go to a YOrkie show, many of them are about that size)
Maltese? prefered size for showing? 4-6lbs.
Chihuahua? must be under 6.
If you and your vet are uncomfortable with such small dogs that is one thing. Calling us criminals is quite another.
