My dog Lexie (3 years old) has a liver shunt. She can only eat Science Diet l/D and she is on Lactulose 3 mg once a day. I made the mistake of feeding her another dog food while we were traveling and she got sick. The food was too high in protein. So after staying a couple of days at the Vet and upping her Lactulose the Vet cautioned me that she only needs to eat the Science Diet LD. She also never gets anything else like table food, etc. She does occasionally get a piece of a cracker my Grandson drops on the floor but other than that only her food. She has done well with the meds and the food. The food can be expensive because other than the cans you can only order the huge bags. Sometimes I split it with another family and that helps the cost.

I know she probably won't live to be 10 or 12 years old but I am not going to focus on that. I am going to enjoy her every day I have her. She is a sweetie pie.
