I can't even count how many times my kids have been insulted!

I think its often jealousy, or ignorance that we don't find those
endearing terms. And (as my husband always tells me), that for every rude thing that is said there has to be at least 10 x the compliments. He also tells people, "you'd better not let my wife hear you say that, or she'll come at you like a spider monkey!"
I also just just inform them that their comment is not appreciated. Insulting a little dog... how sad.
